About Cal

Cal Louise Phoenix is a multi-genre author, licensed substance use disorder counselor, and little potato.  At work, her approach with clients is rooted in ethical conduct, collaboration, and unconditional positive regard.  When she’s not writing, you can find her hunched over a sewing machine or on a hiking trail, wearing those weird shoes with the individual toes.

She has a terrible habit of cursing and excessive use of terms of endearment.  She has been told she contains multitudes.  Her list of dislikes include biting insects, persimmons, and neoliberal capitalism.  While she admires and looks up to Fanny Kaplan, Artemisia Gentileschi, Rachel Carson, Fred Hampton, and others, her mother Kathryn is her greatest role model.

Cal lives in her native Kansas with her husband and their two cats, Filburt and Bergamia.  Someday, she hopes to mother a mischief of fancy rats and learn to cultivate beets.
